Home of the National Collection of
Iris Louisiana (sp & hybrids )
Water irises (laevigata,pseudacorus,versicolor,virginica)
Caltha (Marsh Marigolds)
specialist growers of rare moisture loving and aquatic plants
and hardy Carnivorous plants
Marsh Marigolds are one of the joys of spring as they brighten up the bog garden.
With their bright yellow blooms in advance of other plants.
The Collection was set up to try to rebuild the old Caltha Collection. And concentrates on Caltha grown in the southern Hemisphere, Caltha grown in the northern hemisphere fall under the group Pyschrophilia
I received help from John Carter of Rowden Gardens who helped me understand more about these plants and helped with starter plant material, from there I was able to source other missing plants from the collection and obtained some new cultivars and plants never grown in the collection previously.
The collection includes single and double flower forms and includes
The large Caltha palustris Var palustris
Which can reach 4 foot tall and has large leaves and flowers
Earlier than the species.
The aim of the collection is to conserve these wonderful gems and show visitors the various variations of Caltha and how to cultivate them.
